World Book Day costume ideas

Half term is over, and World Book Day is fast approaching! To celebrate World Book Day, here are some quirky costume ideas for you or your child to avoid being one of the twenty ‘Boys in a Dress’, Spidermen or Disney princesses!

George (from George’s Marvellous Medicine)

Are you a budding scientist? With just a red t-shirt and blue jeans or shorts, you can dress up as George Kranky from George’s Marvellous Medicine (by Roald Dahl)! Just remember to bring a wooden spoon and an empty medicine bottle.

Al (from Al’s Awesome Science)

With the same red t-shirt, wear some shorts and take a notebook and a stomp-rocket to become a tip-top scientist!

Rosie (from Rosie Revere Engineer)

Or, why not go as Rosie Revere Engineer (by Andrea Beaty)? Rosie wears a white frock (with red and black hoops around the bottom, for those with a sewing machine!) and a white polka dot red scarf on her head.

Carmela (from Carmela Full of Wishes)

Got a pair of black dungarees in the wardrobe? Then grab a red and white striped t-shirt from last year’s Where’s Wally costume, and you can be Carmela from Carmela Full of Wishes (by Matt de la Pena).

Beetle Queen and Beetle Boy (from Beetle Queen)

Got a sharp bobbed hair style? Throw on a black outfit and black shades and grab some fake creepy crawlies and you’re Beetle Queen or Beetle Boy (by M.G. Leonard).

Billy (from Billy and the Beast)

If you haven’t already met Billy from Billy and the Beast (by Nadia Shireen), you should! If you have a yellow raincoat grab a red hairband and you’ll be good to go!

Xar and Wish (from The Wizards of Once)

Xar and Wish from The Wizards of Once (by Cressida Cowell) have black t-shirts and trousers with a red waistcoat. Draw swirls and patterns on your face and you’re World Book Day ready.

Princess Harriet Hamsterbone (from Hamster Princess: Ratpunzel)

Finally, if you want a really wacky costume, why not make some hamster ears and a tiara and attach them to a headband, and style them with a black t-shirt and blue jacket or cardigan? You’ll look just like Princess Harriet Hamsterbone from From Hamster Princess: Ratpunzel (by Ursula Vernon)!
