We’re Nicola and Tom, the founders of DoodleMaths.
Back in 2011, we were watching our children playing on their tablets, and we realised just how much potential there was in using technology to teach. As we’re both maths teachers, we began to create a unique app that would combine all the different learning styles, work alongside class-taught maths lessons, and encourage children to learn in a fun and personal way.
Looking back, we’ve come a long way from that initial eureka moment. We’ve released two DoodleMaths apps covering maths and times tables content from ages 4 to 14, curriculum-aligned to five different countries, which have been downloaded and used by more than one million children. We’re also in hundreds of schools, not just in the UK but internationally too – and this number continues to grow.
We don’t believe technology is there to replace teachers, but we do believe it can truly enhance the level of teaching someone is able to provide. It’s virtually impossible for a teacher to know the exact strengths and weaknesses of every individual student when teaching such a vast curriculum, but our technology can provide the data and the tools to enable them to do just that at the touch of a button.
We’re proud of what we’ve built, not least because of the studies and constant feedback demonstrating that DoodleMaths really works to improve not only ability, but confidence in maths, which is no easy task!
Whether you use DoodleMaths at home or at school, we’d love to hear your feedback and any ideas you have about how we can continue to make our apps the best they can be.
