NAPLAN
NAPLAN is a nationwide assessment that helps schools and families understand how students are progressing in key areas of learning. Many schools use the results to guide teaching and support student development. Learn everything you need to know about NAPLAN below.
NAPLAN
In primary school, students build core skills in numeracy, including number operations, basic fractions, measurement, and geometry. NAPLAN assesses how well students have developed these foundational skills as they progress through their schooling.
NAPLAN Year 3
By Year 3, students are expected to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, work with simple fractions, use units of measurement, and recognise key shapes and their features. The Year 3 NAPLAN numeracy test checks how confidently students can apply these foundational skills.
By Year 5, students develop skills in all number operations, fractions and decimals, measurement, data interpretation, and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. The Year 5 NAPLAN numeracy test assesses how confidently they can apply these skills in different problem-solving contexts.
Early & Selective Entry Exam Resources
These assessments help schools and families understand how students are performing at key stages, from kindergarten entry to selective school placement. Schools often use the results to guide teaching and support student development. Learn everything you need to know about Best Start, scholarship tests, and selective entry exams below.
Best Start Kindergarten Assessment
In kindergarten, children develop early literacy and numeracy skills, including counting, basic problem-solving, and early reading. The Best Start Assessment checks how confidently they can apply these skills.
ACER Scholarship Test
The ACER Scholarship Test assesses students’ abilities in areas such as reasoning, literacy, and numeracy. It helps identify high-achieving students and provides insight into their readiness for scholarship opportunities.
NSW Selective School Test
The NSW Selective School Test assesses students’ skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and reasoning. It helps identify students suited for selective schools and evaluates how confidently they can apply their knowledge.
