Here at Doodle, we understand that the key to success isn’t just meeting user expectations but exceeding them. That’s why we’ve been listening to user feedback and refining our products to offer the best learning experiences possible.

We’re excited to share some recent improvements that are sure to elevate your Doodle experience!

Number lines

Number lines are a powerful visual tool to support learners in becoming flexible and confident mathematicians. At Doodle, we believe number lines can help to reduce cognitive load and, over time, improve students’ number sense. That’s why we’ve created two fun, interactive number lines to scaffold our users’ learning in lesson explanations!

Both number lines have been carefully designed to resemble the pictorial representations children are often exposed to in the classroom, whilst providing an appropriate level of support to users of all ages.

Our closed, labelled number line is fantastic for EYFS children learning to recognise and sequence numbers, as well as KS2 children learning to work with negative numbers and round to powers of 10.

Our ‘hop’ number line is brilliant for counting on and back in varying intervals. Not only is it effective for counting in multiples and learning times tables, the ‘hop’ number line can also be a confidence-building bridge between concrete and abstract when solving numerical calculations.

Help features

Our brand-new concepts are built with the learner in mind. They’re designed to build confidence by allowing learners to work at the level that’s right for them.

As we know, learning can be challenging and sometimes we all need extra support. On those occasions, when concepts, words, ideas or questions feel difficult, we have a variety of ways to support learners.

Finding a question particularly tough? Tap the red question mark towards the bottom right of the screen. This presents a guided solution that includes an extra explanation of the suggested method that is broken down into easy-to-digest steps, as well as the answer.

Not sure on the meaning of a word? Our easy-to-use glossary will provide the answers. Defining hundreds of words simply, and often pictorially, no learner is left in the dark, helping them feel even more confident as they navigate the world of maths!

Ordering interactions

Comparing and ordering are essential skills across many areas of maths – they can really help embed and extend learning.

We’ve introduced our new ordering interaction into restyled lesson explanations which allow children to move and arrange tiles, making learning tactile and engaging.

Our ordering interaction can be used from EYFS to KS3, starting with ordering images in repeating patterns, all the way up to ordering the steps of BODMAS.

The number of sorting tiles varies from 3 to 6, allowing for more support or challenge when needed. Whether they’re comparing 2-digit numbers, negative numbers or ordering unit fractions, the interaction supports learning by showing the tiles children have ordered correctly and, importantly, allowing them the chance to correct their mistakes.

To scaffold learning further, some tiles may be locked in place. Typically, these are the starting tiles, as we know getting started can be the hardest part!
