World Teachers’ Day: celebrating the teaching community

My favourite primary teacher was Miss Venus. She was kind, compassionate and fantastically glamorous! More than 20 years later, I can still clearly remember sitting on the carpet in her class listening to stories. In fact, I think it was probably around that time that I began to think I wanted to be a teacher.

Beneath her calm and ever-on-trend appearance, Miss Venus was working incredibly hard, working long hours inside and outside of the classroom. With planning, marking, subject responsibilities and a whole host of other things to organise and manage, we know teachers have a lot on their plate, and that’s not including the best bit – teaching!

Alongside these responsibilities comes one of the most challenging and rewarding careers out there. So, we wanted to mark World Teachers’ Day by saying thank-you and celebrating the supportive teacher community! Below are some of my favourite apps and hashtags you can use to connect with the wider teaching community – why not check them out?

In no particular order…

1. TeacherTapp @TeacherTapp

Every day at 3:30pm, thousands of teachers give a minute of their time to answer three quick questions sent directly to their phone via the Teacher Tapp app. It’s a great way to learn more about what other teachers around the country are doing. There’s also a quick read every day to keep you up to date with educational research.

2. #brewED

Grassroots teach meets popping up in pubs across the country for anyone working in education. They’re a chance to meet with other teachers and share experiences.

3. #teachlikeachumpion

A hilarious hashtag on twitter that I became aware of recently. It’s really lovely to see beautiful classrooms and proud posts when people teach fantastic lessons. It’s equally amusing to hear about when things don’t quite go to plan!
