Grammar helps us to understand what we read and embellish what we write. It’s the rulebook by which we learn how to use the English language like word-wizards. Each time we have new English grammar to learn, we’re able to write and say sentences and paragraphs correctly!
Grammar teaches us how to use language correctly through rules. When we understand grammar rules, we can be more expressive, detailed, and on-point when we speak and write. In other words, understanding grammar will make you sound far more exciting and clever to everyone!
Grammar is a set of rules that governs our language. There are so many grammar rules in English we couldn’t possibly list them all here. but we can point out some great ones to keep in mind. Let’s dive in!

Children start to learn about grammar throughout KS2 in primary school. The further along they go, the more they learn about detailed grammatical concepts and ideas.

Grammar is the set of rules that govern the English language.
A determiner comes before a noun and introduces it, for example: ‘this plate’, ‘that beach’, ‘my friend’.
A contraction is when we combine words in a shortened form that is widely accepted in the English language. For example: can and not become can’t, have and not become haven't, I and have become I’ve.
