What's covered in Year 2 SATs papers?
🔢 Year 2 maths SATs papers
The Year 2 maths SATs paper has two sections: Arithmetic and Reasoning.
In the Arithmetic section, children complete a series of calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They’ll also be expected to solve problems using these skills.
In the Reasoning section, learners are given a range of problems to solve, which may involve shape, space, measure and data handling. They’ll need to use their mathematical knowledge and skills to work out the solutions to these problems.
✏️ Year 2 English SATs papers
The Year 2 English paper is also divided into two sections: Reading and Writing.
In the Reading section, children are asked to read a variety of texts, including fiction and non-fiction, and answer questions about them. These may include retrieving information from the text, making deductions and explaining the meaning of phrases.
The Writing section looks at a child’s ability to write in a range of styles, including narratives and instructions. They’ll also be expected to use correct punctuation, spelling and grammar, and to structure their writing appropriately.
